Find a place to feel supported in your grief
Is this how you feel?
Loss is always a difficult experience regardless of whether it's because of the death of a loved one, a marriage ending, injury to your body, loss of a job or the loss of a beloved pet.
It's true that the response to loss varies from person to person and country to country. Your response to loss is also rooted in your beliefs and values. Some individuals may tend to over-attach to the ones they love, while others remain somewhat distant from their loved ones. There are many factors that contribute to sadness, anger, shock, panic, denial and numbness.
In every situation, though, loss leaves a mark and frequently results in experiencing grief. If you are in the beginning stages of grief, you may struggle to cope with basic daily tasks such as sleeping, eating, thinking straight… Everything just seems too overwhelming to manage.
This stage can be extremely difficult to go through. It's important to take your time; there is no timeframe for when you should feel better and be finished with your grief process. After all, you need to come to terms with what has changed in your life and make a new meaning in your life.
Often, your perceptions and expectations of yourself and others will be changed as a result of the loss. The loss of a loved one or any other form of great loss will always be a part of your life story. It is learning to live with the loss that takes determination. And this is where our role begins. We're here to help you find peace and relief after your loss and pain that's been around ever since. It won't be like that forever, and we're here for you.
How to deal with loss and grief
It’s not easy, but keeping good habits will help you go through the most difficult stages of grief faster. If you’re currently experiencing grief after a loss, consider following these steps:
Rest and eat well |
Move your body – start exercising |
Reach out to family and friends |
Let your family doctor know |
Journal your feelings |
Set up a comfortable place in your home |
Slowly create rituals around your relationship with the lost person |
Try something new – art, cooking, a new hobby |
And if that’s not enough, and you’re not feeling better? Seek the support of a trusted therapist.
