Therapy for couples
Have you been in a relationship for quite some time now? Or perhaps you're thinking of starting a new life together. Starting and cultivating a healthy relationship can be challenging, but it certainly can be done if only both sides are willing to make the effort.
Here at Rosemary Heights Counselling, we offer couples counselling for couples experiencing a wide variety of issues, as well as those interested in pre-marital counselling before committing to join their lives together.
We also assist couples in the process of separation and divorce and find that couples who have professional support during this challenging time greatly benefit from this additional support.
Why seek couples counselling?
Couples often enter therapy when one or both partners are experiencing some disappointment in the relationship or their need for acceptance, validation and feeling loved is not being met.
What brings couples to therapy may be a lack of emotional satisfaction, extramarital affairs, conflict over responsibilities, career stressors, different parenting styles, as well as health or economic stressors.
Research states that most conflicts in relationships are related to core differences, such as one partner's value of independence and the other's desire for more togetherness. Over time, couples develop a predictable cycle of interacting with each other that becomes cemented over time. It can be challenging to break these cycles but your therapist can assist you to understand the cycle and start to intervene when it begins.
Our therapists are ready to help you and your partner work on your relationship, strengthen your bonds and grow respect and understanding.

The more overwhelmed your relationship becomes,
the less access either of you have to your
natural talents of resolving difficulties.

What can you expect during couples counselling?
The goal of couples counselling is to help you build mutual respect and understanding and to strengthen your relationship. To make this possible, both partners will be honoured and respected equally.
Your therapist will create a safe environment where you will be able to explore your hurts, fears and disappointments and develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your partner. You will learn what your unfinished issues are that get triggered by your partner and how to respond effectively.
We will put a lot of emphasis on communication with respect, fondness, softness, care and love. This will help you be more confident that you can successfully communicate the problems that arise in your relationship.
Finally, together, we will help you understand the different models of relationships and work towards having an enriched model of marriage/relationship so that you two can become the best partners possible and build a solid foundation for a lasting, fulfilling relationship.
