Anxiety or depression?

While both conditions have much in common, they are different and require different approaches. Take a look at some of the common symptoms of anxiety and depression:

  • Excessive worrying
  • Restlessness and sleep issues

  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Irritability
  • Shortness of breath
  • Muscle tension

Some of the common depression symptoms:

  • Difficulty making decisions
  • Lack of energy, exhaustion
  • Unable to recall recent events

Symptoms vary according to the person and their unique experience and can be accompanied with other physical, cognitive and emotional symptoms.

Anxiety

We approach the treatment of anxiety from a holistic view addressing all areas of your life that may be adding to your level of stress. We utilize many forms of counselling; we know that every person is unique, and their treatment plan should be tailored to their situation.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a research-based method for treating anxiety. CBT has some of the strongest evidence as an effective treatment in the field of psychology. It is one of the most effective treatments for conditions where anxiety or depression are the main problem.

CBT focuses on how you think about yourself, the world, and other people. CBT is based on a simple yet proven premise: The way you think (cognitive) and what you do (behaviour) impact how you feel.

When you suffer from anxiety or depression, you may think about events and interactions in distorted ways. CBT assists you in changing these distortions so that you can have more appropriate thoughts, which will result in positive feelings.

Other approaches

CBT is not the only therapy modality we use to help our clients struggling with anxiety. We also use:

  • Mindfulness
  • Psychodynamic and Interpersonal approaches
  • And more depending on the client’s circumstances
  • EMDR
  • Somatic Experiencing Therapy (SE)
  • Satir systemic brief therapy

Depression therapy

When treating depression, we understand that each person’s journey and situation is unique, and we are here to support you every step of the way.

We use a range of therapeutic approaches tailored to your needs, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (just like with anxiety), EMDR, and other talk therapies. Our compassionate counsellors also assist you in making meaningful changes in your life, whether through physical fitness, yoga, meditation, or connecting you with other professionals who can help you feel better.

Together, we will explore coping techniques and work with you to create a personalized, realistic plan for your path to wellness.
